![]() ![]() If you have a part that is just a rough sand casting chrome plated, it will NOT look like what most would think of when they think of chrome plating. Just like real chrome plating, the smoother and more perfectly polished the part is before you cover it, the more reflective the finish will be. Our "Liquid Chrome" is a paint/coating that is meant to replicate chrome, but there are some keys to get the best results that many people miss. just from what I've seen come out of a local paint shop that bought the expensive setup to apply it. It sure does look awesome once applied, I just don't have much experience myself applying it. It does require a clear coat and I've seen the longevity of the "silvering" vary on parts that are exposed to sunlight and weather. ![]() but as mentioned it isn't a 100% long term coating like chrome plating is. In my experience the "silvering" process like Jay shows in the video is about as close as it gets to the real deal. There are a few options out there when it comes to a mirror finish or something replicating chrome. Hey guys Hyde forwarded me the discussion and I figured I'd chime in. Keep this in mind if you have to mask it or put a decal over the clear. If you put tape over the clear it may pull the clear off. On RC car bodies, after a few weeks the black backer would peel away from the lexan. The chrome layer between the black and the clear has very little tensile strength. The clear top coat locks it all together as the chrome is essentially a fine chrome powder with nothing holding it together. It's not far from electroplating just with a different application. Once they lay down they appear to be one solid sheet of chrome plating. The solvent allows the chrome flakes to settle and lay down flat with the gloss black surface. The chrome paint has suspended chrome particles in a pure solvent. If the black has dust, orange peel, ripples, waves, or drips it will show. You want to make sure that it is completely smooth, wet, gloss, virgin finish. The secret is in the black gloss base coat. But mostly on RC car bodies and sprayed to the inside of lexan. I have used this in the past with very easy results. This looks like Alclad chrome paint in a larger quantity. ![]()
